Kids these days have the environment and the ability to experiment with their gender and sexuality in a way that previous generations could not.
They have the opportunity to see if being queer is right for them, so to speak, and if the answer turns out to be no, then that’s okay. The worst thing that we can do is to deny that someone is hurt or offended by something we said or did; in fact, invalidating their experience could be considered a microaggression itself.
Have a good day. Now, in my classroom, as in most elementary school classrooms, when you ask a group of kids to share what they notice, hands shoot up before you can even finish asking the question. And my hope is also, that they grow up seeing people as people. When I was a teenager, there were a few boys at my high school who ridiculed me, almost everyday. International U.
